Many fans didn't like how Nancy abandoned her best friend to hook up with Steve, which resulted in the Demogorgon ambushing and abducting her. Sadly, Barb was taken to the Upside Down, dying there, which Nancy eventually saw herself.
Nancy goes to make out with Steve, telling Barb to go home. Alone by the pool, Barb is abducted by the Demogorgon and disappears. Episode 3 finds Barb waking up in the Upside Down, where she is attacked by the Demogorgon. Nancy searches for Barb and alerts the police.

At first, Nancy wanted to change her clothes in private, but decided to have sex with Steve where she undressed in front of him. As Nancy lost her virginity to Steve, she was unaware that Barb, who was sitting alone outside by the pool, was taken a ferocious monster.
Barb was the best friend of Nancy Wheeler. In late 1983, Barb mysteriously vanishes, which leads Nancy and Jonathan Byers to investigate her disappearance. Eventually, it was revealed that she had been killed by the Demogorgon.
Purser also said that she didn't know that Barb would die at first. She explained, "there was this secrecy about Episode 7, which is the episode where [Chief Hopper] finds Barb's body.
Barb's death implied that whatever the slug does didn't take, so the Mind Flayer reached out to Will instead. It could be that the Mind Flayer needed a younger host, or Barb may have simply died while the Demogorgon was attempting to infect her.
Let's be honest: what Nancy let happen with Jonathan was basically romantic cheating. As such, Steve and Jonathan end up getting into a fight, and it appears that Nancy leans towards choosing Jonathan. That said, the fight was exactly what Steve needed to start his character development.
Most importantly, the instant Nancy has sex with Steve, Barb not only dies, but vanishes completely from Nancy's life. After sex with Steve, Nancy attempts to find Barb, but she can never get Barb back.

Wheeler is Vecna's sister are pretty slim. While it's possible on a theoretical level, it would just be a really weird plot twist, even for Stranger Things. However, it's still odd that Mrs. Wheeler was the only side character with a poster.
Steve is initially portrayed as a stereotypical 1980s popular “jock”; he has an antagonistic personality, yet attracts the attention and admiration of many students. Steve is shown to be dating Nancy Wheeler, but after he harasses Jonathan Byers by breaking his camera, Nancy seems to become close to Jonathan.

It was whilst at Murray's that Nancy and Johnathan finally gave in to their feelings and slept together for the first time. This is a harsh blow to Steve, especially considering Murray's observation that Nancy likes Steve a lot but doesn't love him moments earlier.
However, when Barbara goes missing, Nancy jumps back into the investigation, also feeling guilty because Barbara disappeared while Nancy was with Steve. She aligns herself with Jonathan and they discover Barbara has been taken to an alternate dimension called The Upside-Down by a creature called The Demogorgon.
Nancy Cared About Steve More
Nancy chose to remain with Steve rather than accompanying Barb home, despite her friend having hurt herself. It could be argued that Nancy cared about her boyfriend more, as she disregarded the feelings of her friend.

After season 4 volume 2 premiered in July 2022, many fans were curious to see if there would be a Steve and Nancy reunion, as Steve confesses he still has feelings for Nancy.

He has a crush on Nancy, and while both he and Lucas have feelings for Max in season two, Lucas and Max ultimately end up together. He also befriends Steve, who gives him advice on how to make girls like him.
After re-kindling her love for Dale, Nancy decides to end her affair with John Redcorn.
No matter how obvious the affair between John Redcorn and Nancy was, Dale never deduced it; indeed, once, after having caught the two in bed, he merely apologizes for interrupting their "migraine treatment" and rushes out. In "Dog Dale Afternoon", Dale even caught Redcorn sneaking in through the window.
Nancy had a fourteen-year affair with John Redcorn, which produced her son, Joseph, although he eventually broke off the affair and she became a more faithful wife to Dale.
The theory predicts that Vecna wants to regain his human form, and he will use Will to do so in Season 5. Knowing that Vecna singled out Will in Season 1, it's a reasonable theory, but it might go too far. After all, Vecna already has a human form, and he has vowed to eliminate humanity.
Joyce and Chief Hopper found an unconscious Will Byers strung up in the Upside Down version of the public library; he had a tendril in his mouth, extending through his trachea, and into his lungs. Hopper pulled it out of his throat before shooting and destroying it.
The obvious answer: Vecna wasn't written into the show until Season 4. Anything that happened before that season is a result of that.
