Compared to dads, moms are usually soft-spoken and good listeners. Moms not only nurture their children but they also take care of their homeworks, playtime and other things. In fact, as per research, boys who have a close relationship with their moms tend to have better performance in school.
“Male babies on average have greater difficulty self-regulating their emotional state and therefore have a greater reliance on emotional support, especially from their mother1,” he says.
One of the primary reasons why children give more honor to their mothers than their fathers is because mothers gave them more compassion and tender loving care (TLC) when they were growing up.
Kids generally describe their moms as more positive and less reactive. Kids generally feel they get in more trouble with their dads. Because kids have more contact with their moms, they know their moms better and rely on them for support.
Urszula Marcinkowska, an evolutionary psychologist at the University of Turku, explains that since mamas are our earliest and closest contact, she becomes the “visual template” men seek out.
The study, by dating site eHarmony, found that 64% of men go for women with the same personality traits as their mums. To reach this conclusion, the researchers developed a personality test, which psychologically evaluated men, their partners and their mothers.
An analogous theory proposed by Carl Jung is known as the Electra complex in females. The theories suggest that all boys between the ages of three and five sexually desire their mothers and that little girls covet their fathers.
Mothers are more critical of their daughters than their sons, and admit to having a having stronger bond with their little boys, according to research.
Predivorce family dynamics: In most intact families, sons and daughters are closer to their mothers than to their fathers. This does not mean the children and their fathers love one another less.
However, there is increasing evidence that the father-child relationship is just as strong as the mother-child bond, as long as there is enough interaction between dads and their kids from an early age.
As a parent, you influence your child's basic values, like religious values, and issues related to their future, like educational choices. And the stronger your relationship with your child, the more influence you'll have, because your child will be more likely to seek your guidance and value your opinion and support.
Children may feel that one parent is more similar to them psychologically, is more empathetic to them, or is simply a better parent. We could also make the case, in contrast, that children prefer the parent who is opposite to them, just as in romantic relationships in which “opposites attract.”
Of course it has its ups and downs (ahem, the teenage years), but there's no denying that the mother-daughter bond is something special. And now, scientists agree. According to a study published in The Journal of Neuroscience, the relationship between mothers and daughters is the strongest of all parent-child bonds.
However, a 2018 Gallup poll found that 54% of Americans said boys were easier to raise than girls, while only 27% said girls were easier, and 14% said there was no difference. Some research suggests girls are better communicators in the younger years, but this may change later on.
Freud theorised that all small boys select their mother as their primary object of desire. They subconsciously wish to usurp their fathers and become their mothers' lover. Typically, these desires emerge between the ages of three and five, when a boy is in what Freud defined as the "phallic" stage of development.
The Strong Bond Between Mothers and Sons
One of the primary reasons is that mothers tend to povide more emotional support to their children. Sons who are emotionally attached to their mothers tend to have better mental health, as they feel more comfortable expressing their emotions to their mothers.
Most people feel as though they look more like their biological mom or biological dad. They may even think they act more like one than the other. And while it is true that you get half of your genes from each parent, the genes from your father are more dominant, especially when it comes to your health.
The Real Difference Is Probably A Matter Of Gender Bias
One approach, illustrated in a recent study in Scientific Reports, is that men prefer sons and women prefer daughters, but both feel more protective of girls than boys.
Boys and dads have a special relationship. Sons cherish the emotional and physical affection that their fathers give. And statistically, children who are shown regular affection from their dads do better in life, because they not only crave that connection, but they need it.
For instance, a study of more than 400 middle school boys revealed that sons who were close to their mothers not only remained more emotionally open, forming stronger friendships, but were also less depressed and anxious than their more macho classmates. And they were getting better grades, too.
Male children generally tend to be closer to their moms than the females, so they tend to want to secure the love of their mothers! It is your duty as a mother to instil discipline and morals at that stage so your son can pick a leaf as he grows since he's watching you closely as he grows up.
Well, it turns out male offspring - so boys - inherit more genes from their mothers. The way this works is that when it comes to the sex chromosomes, females get two X chromosomes, one from their mother, one from their father, whereas males get an X from Mom and a Y from Dad.
It's normal for your child to feel a stronger attachment toward their opposite-sex parent between the ages of 3 and 6. Reassure your child by telling them that while a parent's love for their child is very strong, it's also very different from the love they have for their partner.
The Supporting Evidence: Because boys only have the one X-chromosome, all X-linked traits can be traced back to the maternal influence. X-linked disorders may include: Red-green color-blindness – being unable to distinguish between green and red—is a recessive X-linked trait.
1) Baby boys who do not have secure attachments with their mothers go on to have behavioral problems later in life. Studies reveal that boys who do not bond securely with their mothers in the infant years act much more hostile, destructive and aggressive later in life.
