Any features surrounding the lifted area of the face can be affected. Earlobe swelling after a facelift is most common in patients with detached earlobes (before surgery), meaning that their earlobes hang freely next to the jawline and are not attached.
The term “pixie ear” refers to a possible complication following facelift surgery. When it occurs, the earlobe essentially looks stretched. It can also cause detached earlobes to look attached. For those who know what to look for, it can be a dead giveaway of a facelift.
Raisin Ear
Wrinkly earlobes? During a face lift, surgeons sometimes detach the earlobe from the face, pull the skin tight, and then reattach the earlobe. If done hastily, says Dr. Youn, this can create raisin-like wrinkles in the lobe.
Parts of the face, neck, and ears sometimes feel weak or numb after the facelift operation these feelings are temporary and, if they occur, generally last less than 6 weeks. In some cases, this sensation may last as long as six months, but this is an extremely rare occurrence.
In general, the results from your facelift will look very good after about 1-month and you'll look your best at 6 months. A facelift can produce long-lasting results for years to come. And while everyone has a unique aging process, many of my patients don't feel they need more work for 12-14 years.
Most people recover in 4 to 6 weeks. But it probably will take 6 months or more to see the final result from the surgery.
GENTLY go over your suture lines 2-3 times daily with peroxide on a Q-tip around the front and the back of your ears. Apply a small amount of Bacitracin Ointment to the suture lines around the front and back of the ear. 2. Apply peroxide to staples also, but never use the ointment on the staples, only peroxide.
What Are Dog Ears? "Dog Ears" is a term that refers to excess skin and fat that "pucker" out at the primary incision lines as they go around the sides of the chest in Double Incision Top Surgery. Dog Ears can also sometimes develop at the point where incisions come together near the center of the chest.
Once the swelling wanes, that tightness feeling should dissipate in time. Your skin will also start to slightly stretch as it adapts to the new shape. You can expect the face to feel tight for a few months following the facelift surgery. The tightness can last for about 2 – 3 months.
A collection of blood (hematoma) under the skin is the most common complication of a face-lift. A hematoma causes swelling and pressure. It usually forms within 24 hours of surgery. When a hematoma forms, prompt treatment with surgery helps prevent damage to the skin and other tissues.
Why? When the facelift is performed, the skin is tightened and it can flatten out the jowls because the skin is tighter. However, over time as the skin relaxes, the full fatty jowls will restretch out the skin and the jowls will reappear.
All of the muscles encountered in facelifting, including the platysma, orbicularis oculi, zygomaticus major and minor, and risorius muscles, belong to the superficial group [24].
In facelift procedures, the earlobe is dissected and separated from its base. It is then sutured at the end of the procedure so that its postoperative shape is natural and well rounded, without downward stretching due to pulling of the submandibular and cervical tissues.
Facelift surgery will not affect your smile when performed appropriately. You can help to ensure the most pleasing and reliable results by choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon to perform your procedure.
Dog ears can occur when the skin is not evenly pulled or correctly sutured during the procedure by the plastic surgeon. However, they can also occur if the patient had a very significant amount of excess skin or if the patient has poor skin elasticity.
Patients do complain of a feeling of fullness in the ears or pain in the ears for the first few days after surgery. This is caused by swelling, and improves fairly quickly. Most of my patients take prescription pain medication for the first couple of days before transitioning to Motrin or Tylenol.
These can occur when skin beyond the end of the scar is looser than skin along the scar itself, often creating a small mound of excess skin where the incision ends. Due to the skin tightening aspect of tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty), dog ears are actually quite common after the procedure.
In general, you can expect to make a full recovery from your procedure in about two to three weeks. A traditional face and neck lift addresses a larger area and a greater degree of skin laxity than other procedures, so recovery will take longer than more minimally invasive procedures.
In concept, a scarless facelift is designed to tighten facial tissues without the traditional incision in front of the ear. This technique uses an endoscope (a small, pencil-sized camera), which allows your surgeon to get a visual of the underlying tissues without needing to open and lift the skin completely.
Brush teeth gently with a soft toothbrush only. Avoid manipulation of upper lip and cheeks. You may have difficulty opening your mouth wide or turning your head. As healing takes place and swelling subsides this will improve.
When performed correctly by the hands of a skilled surgeon, facelift results can be some of the most natural looking of any cosmetic procedure and can leave you with a rejuvenated and more youthful facial appearance. Your skin produces less collagen each year as you age.
AVOID BENDING OVER OR LIFTING heavy things for one week. Besides aggravating swelling, this may raise the blood pressure and start hemorrhage. AVOID HITTING OR BUMPING YOUR FACE, HEAD AND NECK. It is wise not to pick up small children and you should sleep alone for one week after your operation.
Most people who have facelifts are in their 40s, 50s, and 60, which is when facial aging becomes more apparent. Deep wrinkles, lines, and sagging skin happen with aging as the skin's collagen production drops.
