1 Day Before Your Colonoscopy (Prep Day)
Do not eat anything solid. No red, orange or purple products. No dairy products or creamers. Clear liquids include water, tea, coffee, apple juice, white grape juice, white cranberry juice, sports drinks, vitamin waters, Jell-O®, broth and soda.
The Day Before Your Appointment
ALL DAY TODAY FOLLOW A STRICT CLEAR LIQUID DIET. DO NOT EAT ANY FOOD OR THICK LIQUIDS AT ALL! Examples of clear liquids are: water, apple juice, broth (NOT SOUP WITH THINGS IN IT) Jell-O, tea/coffee without milk/cream, sodas, sports drinks, and popsicles, but nothing red colored.
During this time, you are allowed to eat: Dairy: Including milk, butter, cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, ice cream, and sour cream. Low-fiber, non-whole grains: Breads made with white flour, white rice, saltines, and corn flakes.
You may have low residue breakfast only. Low residue breakfast foods include eggs, white bread, cottage cheese, yogurt, grits, coffee, and tea. You may have clear liquids. Do not drink milk or eat or drink anything colored red or purple.
OK to eat:
Buttermilk. Cheese, including cottage cheese. Yogurt. Sour cream.
You will usually be asked to avoid eating all solid foods the day before your colonoscopy, including eggs. However in the week preceding your colonoscopy, you can eat eggs.
The biggest culprits that will show up in a colonoscopy and obscure our view are foods like nuts, seeds and high-fiber cereals. You also want to avoid granola, coconut, dried fruit and fresh fruit with the skin on, like apples and pears, or fruit with seeds, like strawberries and raspberries.

One day before the procedure:
This must be of low residue i.e. you may have boiled egg with white bread or toast and tea/coffee with a little milk. You may not have cereal, brown bread, fruit or fruit juice and jam or marmalade. After this meal you may not have any more solid food until after the colonoscopy.
Can I shower, eat breakfast, or brush my teeth the morning of my colonoscopy? You may not eat anything the morning of your procedure, but you may continue to drink clear liquids up until 2 hours before your procedure. You may shower and brush your teeth.
Foods allowed:
Canned or cooked fruit without skins or seeds (peaches, pears, apricots, apples) Applesauce. Banana.
For Breakfast You may have a light breakfast consisting of plain or vanilla yogurt, 2 slices of dry or buttered toast, coffee or tea (with a little cream or milk) and clear liquids. After Breakfast Start on a clear liquid diet. Clear liquids are those you can “see through”. NOTE: CLEAR LIQUIDS ONLY.
The day before the colonoscopy procedure — Don't eat solid foods. Instead, consume only clear liquids like clear broth or bouillon, black coffee or tea, clear juice (apple, white grape), clear soft drinks or sports drinks, Jell-O, popsicles, etc.

Avoid products containing Olestra (a fat substitute found in some fat-free and low-fat foods) for one week. A few examples of foods you may eat are dairy products, meats, poultry, fish, pasta, white rice, white bread, eggs, mashed potatoes, cooked carrots or squash. *** Take NO SOLID FOODS – CLEAR LIQUIDS ONLY.
You can drink water, tea or coffee with skim milk only (or black tea/coffee), and any other drinks you like as long as they contain skim milk only. What are clear fluids? After your breakfast the day before your test, you can only have clear fluids.

Background. Colonoscopies performed in the afternoon (PM) have been shown to have lower adenoma detection rates (ADR) compared to those in the morning (AM). Endoscopist fatigue has been suggested as a possible reason. Colonoscopies tend to be technically more challenging in female patients.
