Phone marketplace Gazelle found that cat litter is a more effective means of drying your phone than the oft-recommended technique of sticking your phone in a bag of dry rice.
Apparently crystal kitty litter is the best at reviving your poor, drenched handset. Gazelle says you should try and shake water out of the phone first then air-dry, but if you must put it in something, leave it in the bag of kitty litter for as long as possible.
Leave your phone in an airtight container full of silica gel packets (those small packets you get inside new shoes and bags), or another drying agent. These help absorb the moisture.
Instant couscous or oatmeal, crystal-based cat litter, and synthetic desiccant packets are all good alternatives to rice. Place your phone in a large container and fully cover it in your drying agent. Leave it for 2-3 days. When the phone is dry, wipe it down, reassemble it, and try turning it on.
Place your phone in an airtight container and completely cover it with your choice of desiccant. Leave the container for 24-48 hours for the material to draw all the moisture out of your handset.
If you see moisture, gently dry it as best you can, without damaging the components. Don't touch it for a while. The air will naturally evaporate water that has gotten inside your phone, helping it dry out as time passes.
Do not -- we repeat, do not -- use a blow dryer; the heat can damage the phone. If you have a phone or a gadget with a cover that comes off, take it off, and take out the battery, the SIM card, and anything else that can easily be removed. Dry all those things off.
Since your phone isn't waterlogged, the most efficient way to dry up the moisture is to let it evaporate. Just leave the phone somewhere for 1 – 2 hours to let it dry up. Moisture will naturally evaporate within a few hours when you place your phone in an open room with a warm temperature.
To dry iPhone, tap it gently against your hand with the Lightning connector facing down to remove excess liquid. Leave the device in a dry area with sufficient airflow. Placing the device in front of a fan blowing cool air directly into the Lightning connector may help the drying process.
Give it as long as possible to dry out. Ideally you want to allow 48 hours or more, but at least leave it overnight if you can.
Reduce moisture.
A tray of cat litter can help absorb moisture and prevent mold.
Cat litter pellets are designed to absorb pet excretions, so they will also absorb moisture from the air.
Is Kitty Litter for Oil Spills a good absorbent for Oil? The simple answer is no – Kitty Litter or Oil Dry is not a good absorbent for Oil. While it looks like the oil gets absorbed by kitty litter, technically the oil never gets fully absorbent and just sits on top of the surface of the Kitty litter.
Hitting the nail on the head, we'd like to tell you that a water-damaged phone cannot repair itself. It might only work for some time if the water didn't penetrate sensitive components of the phone.
Drying Your Phone
Do not use a blow-dryer or try placing the phone into an oven, microwave, clothes dryer, or any other device—the heat will damage your phone!
Use Silica Gel Packets (Not Rice)
They are used in packaged and boxed products (such as shoes) to absorb moisture, and can do the same for your phone. Place a few silica gel packets under your phone and on top. Let the phone sit for a few hours while the silica gel packets absorb the water.
Put Your Phone Into a Cool Place
Getting your phone out of these hot environments can cool it down immediately — try putting it into a dark room or even cool it down with a fan. Never put it into the freezer or refrigerator, though. Cold temperatures can damage your phone, too.
Leave your iPhone in a dry area with some airflow for up to a day. You can try again to charge or connect a Lightning accessory throughout this period. It might take up to 24 hours to fully dry.
Resist the temptation to use a hair dryer or other heat treatment, as this can damage the iPhone's internal components. To get moisture out of the iPhone's interior, you need a desiccant.
Dry out your iPhone by laying it in a safe, dry place. Allow at least 48 hours for the liquid to evaporate before reinserting the SIM components or turning on the iPhone.
