The Endless characters were created by Neil Gaiman and first appeared in the comic book series The Sandman (1989–1996). They embody forces of nature in the DC Universe. They are depicted as among the most powerful beings in the setting, distinct from most gods, as gods are created by mortal belief.
The Endless are a family of some of the most powerful beings in the DC Universe, who are godlike but not exactly gods themselves because they are not created by mortal belief.
Father Time is the personification of Time and rules over his domain. Time is the father to the Endless and with his partner Night, made all of Creation possible. However, in present times, Time and Night are separated and estranged from their families.
Later revealed during events of Sandman: Overture, the siblings do in-fact have parents, with their father being Time, the personification of time itself and their mother being Night, the personification of the endless darkness that existed before the dawn of the universe.
As children of Time and Darkness, the Endless are incredibly powerful beings, capable to create entire realms and dimensions while existing as the embodiment of their realms. They are said to be more powerful than every single god, even surpassing some of the weaker Primordials.
Lucifer is even stronger than the Endless, and the only known beings able to rival or surpass his power are Michael and the Presence. Dimensional Travel: Lucifer is capable of traveling throughout realms at will. By projecting flames from his hands, Lucifer is able to create portals to hell.
Trimurti is considered to be the most powerful god as he is a combination of Brahma [The Creator], Vishnu [The Preserver] & Shiva [The Destroyer].
Children of Time and Night, the Endless were born just as the universe was put into motion. Before any human, magical creature, or god existed, the Endless were there as the personification of one of the vital aspects of life.
The Endless are a somewhat dysfunctional family of seven siblings who each represent an aspect of the universe: Dream, Death, Destiny, Despair, Desire, Delirium and Destruction.
There's a 'vibe' in the series of the endless having a power rank roughly in line with their ages (oldest to youngest), which fits well with dream's speech. Of the six mentioned so far the age order is Destiny > Death > Dream > Desire > Despair > Delirium.
Death is the second oldest of the Endless and the elder sister of Dream.
However, there is still someone else we haven't seen, someone the Endless themselves haven't seen in a very long time: the infamous Prodigal. The Prodigal is mentioned many times throughout The Sandman.
In The Sandman comics she is not precisely an angel per se but actually one of The Endless. The Endless are personifications of aspects of sentient life and cousins of the angels (according to the message Cain delivers to Lucifer in Season of mists).
In the first season of "The Sandman," fans were introduced to The Endless: seven eternal beings who exist because the concepts they represent also exist. The seven siblings are Dream, Despair, Desire, Death, Destruction, Delirium, and Destiny, and "The Sandman" comics eventually show them all in some manner,...
Dream (aka, Morpheus) is one of seven immortal beings known as the Endless, who are even more powerful than the gods.
By the time he returns the Kindly Ones are in the heart of the Dreaming. Morpheus summons his sister Death, who kills him.
In total there are seven members of The Endless, but only four of them appear in the first season of The Sandman: Dream, Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), Desire (Mason Alexander Park) and Despair (Donna Preston).
However, despite his unassuming appearance as a skinny Goth, Dream of the Endless is far more powerful than Superman and easily one of the most powerful beings in the DC Comics multiverse.
Endless things are infinite — your love for someone might be endless, and the mathematical symbol of infinity represents an endless number. You're most likely to use this adjective to describe things that only seem to last forever, like an endless meeting at work or an endless commute during rush hour.
The Endless are each the seven children of even older entities, known as Mother NightOpens in new tab and Father TimeOpens in new tab. Destiny was born first, followed by Death, then Dream, Destruction, the twins known as Desire and Despair, and finally, Delirium, the youngest.
Creators. Death of the Endless came into existence shortly before the first lifeforms appeared in the universe. She will function as the concept of death until the very last living thing has died. After that, she was destined to put the universe to rest.
