While most regular household chores are perfectly safe to do at this point in time (cooking, laundry, dusting, tidying up), we highly recommend you save the heavy lifting – trimming the hedges, cleaning out the gutters and retiling the tub – for the future.
While light housework might not seem strenuous to you, it can potentially still raise your blood pressure which promotes swelling. After surgery, I recommend that my patients rest and avoid any physical activity for 3 weeks after their rhinoplasty procedure.
This may take 2 weeks to resolve. It is safe to resume activities of daily living. 2 Weeks: The majority of the facial swelling has subsided and most of the bruising should have resolved. 3-4 Weeks: You can safely return to cardiovascular activities such as jogging, swimming and cycling.
All strenuous activities, including lifting heavy weights, jogging, aerobic exercises, running, and high impact walking should be avoided. Intense physical movements such as pulling, bending, pushing, and anything that exerts pressure should also be avoided over the first 2 weeks following nose reshaping surgery.
After rhinoplasty surgery, your nose will be extra vulnerable as a result of the changes made to this structure. Your bones, cartilage, and surrounding tissues will be more fragile as they heal, sometimes for up to a year after surgery.
Use Q-Tip & Hydrogen Peroxide
Using a Q-Tip and hydrogen peroxide is a safe, effective way to clean and disinfect your nose and rhinoplasty incisions, but should only be done after any packing has been removed from your nose and face.
Make sure you do this gently until your nose fully heals in 4-6 weeks. At that point, you may wash your nose as normal. You can start cleaning the inside of your nose with the rinsing method as soon as the nasal packing is removed and you have some blood accumulating that needs to be cleaned.
While your surgeon will recommend staying away from the gym or engaging in strenuous exercise in the first four weeks after surgery, you are usually encouraged to take up light activity, such as going for a walk, the day after the surgery. Your surgeon will let you know when exactly you can start walking again.
Answer: Swelling After Rhinoplasty
You can relax and talk on the phone. There are no medical studies that show talking on the phone causes swelling after Rhinoplasty.
After a cosmetic nose procedure like rhinoplasty, it is recommended to take at least 2 to 7 days of rest. You can take light walks to improve blood flow and reduce the chances of blood clots. Improved blood flow helps speed up the healing process of the surgery.
Do not brush your teeth for two weeks following rhinoplasty. If your nose is running, gently dab it with a tissue. Brush your teeth carefully. Because your upper lip is connected to your nose, you'll move your nose if you brush too aggressively.
Watch Movies or TV Shows
Well, during the week after rhinoplasty, you have extra time on your hands to watch some new shows. Watching TV shows and movies is a popular thing to do while recovering from any surgery. It helps the time go by fast and does not require a lot of energy.
It is not advised to do anything but light walking for up to 1-2 hours a day within the first 7 days after your Rhinoplasty. Returning to weights and any machines that work any specific muscles at a higher intensity should be avoided for 4-6 weeks after a Rhinoplasty.
The answer largely depends on what your doctor recommends, but usually patients will be able to wash their face within a few days of the procedure. Unless you have splints that need to stay dry before its removal, you should be able to maintain personal hygiene soon after coming home from the procedure.
Is it OK to sniff after nose surgery? Sniffing a few times after rhinoplasty is generally safe as long as you do it gently and with minimal force. Constant sniffing is not encouraged as this can aggravate the nose, cause further damage to the sutures, and delay healing.
As the post-surgical swelling gradually subsides, nasal sensory perception will improve and smells and tastes will become more defined again. In most patients, it takes about 3 to 6 weeks for sense of smell to fully return.
Park's warning instead: "Extracting or squeezing blackheads around the nose should be avoided for about one-month post-rhinoplasty," she says, noting that this includes getting such done via a facial. "It is critical to avoid placing excess pressure on the nose for the first two weeks after rhinoplasty, too."
If you recently had a rhinoplasty procedure, you also may be experiencing a bit of congestion and runny nose. This is normal. It is the result of some residual swelling of the nasal mucosa. This feeling will gradually disappear as swelling diminishes, however as your tissue heals a scar will form inside your nose.
Answer: Washing your face after rhinoplasty
In my practice, once the tape and cast are removed after 1 week you can wash your face gently with any cleanser you prefer.
In the first 48 hours, rest quietly with minimal talking or laughing. You may get up to use the bathroom or to take a light walk around the house. Please use caution in your home especially with tasks such as climbing stairs when taking pain medications. 7.
Because your reflexes are slowed, do not drive for one week, or until 24 hours after stopping your narcotic pain medication. Our office will contact you daily to check on your progress. The nasal packing will be removed on this day.
Caffeine and alcohol should be avoided for at least 6 weeks following your rhinoplasty. It is also critical that you refrain from smoking following your operation.
As long as you are not forcefully blowing your nose at two weeks (after 3 weeks is OK) or doing anything very strenuous for another week or so, you can safely smile all you want without any concern at all! The soreness you experience when your facial muscles animate as you smile will gradually go away.
In summary, crying, laughing, and yawning are all activities that you should avoid or take caution with for the first few weeks after rhinoplasty surgery. While they will not physically ruin your results, they can cause temporary swelling and bruising.
