Once you send an iMessage from your iPhone, you have 15 minutes to unsend it. Unsending your message will delete it from your phone and from any device you sent it to. In its place, you and the recipient will see a message saying that a message was removed.
Note: Deleting messages changes only your own Messages conversations, not those of your recipients. To retract a message you sent accidentally, use undo send instead.
There is no way to unsend a text message on Android once it has been sent. For all Android devices, there is no built-in feature on Android that allows you to unsend a text message once it has been sent. Once you hit the send button, the message is delivered to the recipient's device and is out of your control.
Unfortunately, you cannot delete a message from both your and the recipient's iPhone once it is sent using the default iMessage or SMS app. However, some third-party apps like WhatsApp or Telegram allow you to delete messages from both sides within a specific time frame.
In addition to the requirement of having iOS 16 to 'unsend' a message using an iOS device, Apple advises in Use Messages on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support that "If you unsend a message to someone on an older version of iOS, iPad OS, or macOS, your contact might still see the message."
How to unsend a message. To recall a message, it needs to be an iMessage in a blue bubble. Tap and hold the sent text bubble (iPhone or iPad) or right-click (Mac) until you see the options menu appear. Select Undo Send and the message will be deleted from the recipient's feed as well as yours.
If you have sent a text message (SMS), deleting the message from your phone will not delete the message from the recipient's phone. Other messaging systems may let you delete the message, but then again, they may already have read it.
Privates, which is currently available on Apple iOS (though Windows and Android versions are expected to be up next), allows users to effectively delete messages before the recipient opens the message using the immediate recall function.
If you can't add or remove someone in a group message
You can only remove someone if the group has four or more people, and everyone is using an Apple device, like an iPhone or iPad. You can only add someone to a group message if they're using an Apple device.
All of your deleted text messages can be found in the Messages app. To find your trashed messages, open Messages and tap the Filters option in the top left of your text threads. Here you can filter your text messages by known senders, unread messages and more. However, the option we want is Recently Deleted.
One method is to long-press on the message that you want to delete, then tap on the trash can icon that appears. This should delete the message from your side of the conversation. To delete the message on the other person's side, you would need to ask them to delete it from their end.
You can restore messages you deleted for up to 30 days. In the Messages conversation list, do one of the following: Tap Edit in the top-left corner, then tap Show Recently Deleted. Tap Filters in the top-left corner, then tap Recently Deleted.
Time Limit for Deleting WhatsApp Messages
Unlike the normal delete that works all the time, there is a time limit in using Delete for everyone. You can unsend messages within an hour of sending them only. After that, you will not see the Delete for everyone option.
With Messages in iCloud, anything you delete from iPhone is also deleted from your other Apple devices where Messages in iCloud is turned on. Deleting messages changes only your own Messages conversations, not those of your recipients.
One surefire method of deleting texts is to reset your phone to the factory settings. Doing this will clear all personal data from your phone, making it a clean slate.
You'll have only two minutes to unsend an iMessage and 15 minutes to edit an iMessage.
You can't delete a sent message from another person's device on either iOS or Android. What is this? If you delete the message or conversation, the other person will still have a record of it. But it will appear on your phone like a new conversation.
Open the chat or group where the message was sent and long press to select it. Then go to the delete option and you will see the 'delete for everyone' option. Step 5: Delete that message. And now turn off the Airplane mode.
