Guilt-ridden over his betrayal to Arishem and his actions against his fellow Eternals, Ikaris leaves earth and flies into the sun, ending his life.
Unlike his DC counterpart Superman though, Ikaris's powers are not derived from the sun, meaning that he wouldn't be able to survive the unimaginable heat and pressure within the star. Eternals co-screenwriter Kaz Firpo has since put an end to the debate, confirming that Ikaris does indeed die.
Overcome by giddiness while flying, Icarus disobeyed his father and soared into the sky. He came too close to the sun, and the heat melted the beeswax holding his feathers together. One by one, Icarus's feathers fell like snowflakes. Icarus was flapping his "wings".
Yes, Ikaris died in Eternals. In his final moments in the film, Ikaris flies away from his beloved Sersi in emotional torment and heads straight into the sun and is last seen apparently succumbing to the intense fires of that giant ball of gas.
While this is far from confirmation, especially after Eternals co-writer Kaz Firpo confirmed that Ikaris will not be returning for future sequels, nothing can be ruled out in such an expansive cinematic universe filled with countless characters and storylines.
"They have announced there's going to be an Eternals sequel," Oswalt said. "Chloé Zhao is going to direct it.
Eternal Rebirth
After the mass suicidal event causing all the Eternals die after learning the truth of their being, they were all rebirthed at once due to their eternal (both species and longevity-wise) nature. Ikaris being the last Eternal to die during the Dark Celestials rein, he was the last to be resurrected.
Finally, after his betrayal of his fellow Eternals to serve the Celestials and the reveal that he had murdered Ajak himself, Ikaris was overcome with guilt and flew into the sun to his death.
Is Ikaris dead? While many originally had some doubt whether Ikaris really died by flying straight through the sun, writer Kaz Firpo clears up the confusion shortly after the release. Kaz confirms in his article that Ikaris did commit suicide as he couldn't bear to face his family after his action.
Are Ikaris and Gilgamesh dead? In the film's final moments, the strongest Eternal Ikaris--played by Richard Madden--is overcome by guilt for having betrayed his teammates. He is shown to have killed himself by flying into the sun. Ajak, played Salma Hayek, and Gilgamesh (Donnie Lee) was also killed in the movie.

Ikaris has long been one of the Eternals' greatest warriors. He's not the strongest or fastest but his durability is greater than anyone else's and he's the group's most dangerous combatant. His eyeblasts are his main weapon and he's incinerated scores of Deviants in single blasts with no trouble at all.
Ikaris has worked alongside the Avengers in the comics, even if he never officially joined the team. Revered as he is as a leader, Eternals might showcase another side to him before establishing him as someone who is fully capable of leading a team, be it the Avengers of the Eternals themselves.
Ikaris can levitate himself by mentally manipulating gravitons around himself. He can also levitate other persons and objects, even while simultaneously levitating himself. Ikaris is able to fly via self-levitation at approximately 850 miles per hour, which is faster than most other Eternals.
In battle, Ikaris would definitely have the upper hand on Thanos if he could manage to evade him in the air, but combined, these "big three" Eternals would make quick work of him.
During the final battle with Ikaris, Druig was able to withstand the cosmic energy beams projected at Druig's back by Ikaris in an attempt to stop him from putting the celestial to sleep, which caused Druig to stumble slightly.
Finally, after his betrayal of his fellow Eternals to serve the Celestials and the reveal that he had murdered Ajak himself, Ikaris was overcome with guilt and flew into the sun to his death.
Immortality: As a Celestial, Tiamut would have been immortal, being able to live forever, without dying due to old age or illnesses. The Eternals only managed to kill him after they united cosmic energy with Tiamut to form Uni-Mind.
Celestial Communication Sphere: Ajak used was a communication sphere given to her by Arishem the Judge, to communicate with the him as the leader of the Eternals. After Ajak passed away, it was inherited by her teammate, Sersi.
Homelander Would Win
And you're putting him up against a goody two-shoes (Clark Kent) and a moral, but misguided, puritan (Ikaris)? They've got no chance. My guy is a straight-up madman.
He remembered their life together before breaking down and crying. As a result, Ikaris could do nothing but let Sersi stop the Emergence, even taking part into the Uni-Mind to give her the necessary cosmic energy, thus enabling Sersi to achieve the Eternals' plan, turning the whole body of Tiamut into marble.
After the battle and Ikaris' death, Sersi agreed to transform Sprite into a human, so she could live the life she always wanted.
Ikaris possesses the conventional abilities of the Eternals of Earth. His body is augmented by cosmic energy, and he has total mental control over his entire molecular structure. He is virtually immune to injury, and can regenerate his entire body if need be.
But of even greater interest is Gilgamesh's mention that he assisted Odin at the battle of Tønsberg, seen at the start of the first Thor film.
"They have announced there's going to be an Eternals sequel. Chloé Zhao is going to direct it," he said in August 2022. "So, hopefully there will be more adventures of Starfox and Pip."
