Google introduced the autoplay behavior on YouTube in 2015. Autoplay is set to ON by default, which means that YouTube will start to play the next video in the queue, or the next video that its algorithm picked to be watched, automatically after the active video ends.

Viewing History: YouTube's recommendation algorithm takes into account your viewing history. If you have watched a particular video multiple times or if you frequently watch videos on a specific topic, YouTube might assume that you still have an interest in those videos and continue suggesting similar content.
Users might face the YouTube playlist autoplay error if the AutoPlay setting for the video is not turned off on your account even though you may have turned it in on the app. In this case, turning on (or off) the AutoPlay feature in the video settings may resolve the issue.

To disable it, tap on the three dots at the top right on your display and go to Settings. Tap on the Site settings option, and the autoplay option will be the second one down. Select it and disable it.

As people get better at tuning out or avoiding advertising, autoplay can be a way to snag a sliver of their attention. They might not click on a video advertisement on purpose, but if it starts to play you might have a chance to capture their attention.
