Hot and cold drinks, food, and vaporizers can be comforting when you have a sore throat. No scientific evidence exists that shows better results from a certain temperature. It is good to keep your sore throat moist, so drinking nonalcoholic beverages may be helpful.
Cold liquids and foods can help temporarily numb your throat and relieve the pain. That said, try not to consume foods with too much sugar. Sugar may prevent your immune system from healing your body if your sore throat is due to an infection.
Cold food helps reduce inflammation and swelling in your throat. It also reduces pain and discomfort. Eating cold foods may be helpful if you have trouble swallowing or breathing through your mouth. Meanwhile, warm drinks promote salivation and lubricate the throat.
There are also some foods that you should avoid as they might make your symptoms worse or cause inflammation. These include: Spicy food and food containing capsaicin, regardless of your normal tolerance. Spicy food can cause inflammation and trigger acid reflux, worsening sore throat symptoms.

Generally speaking, avoid fatty, spicy, or acidic foods as they can all increase irritation. You should also avoid crunchy or hard textured foods like dry toast or cereals, as they can scratch your already delicate throat.
