Like in the previous series, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z has many naming conventions/jokes. Saiyans are all named after vegetables. Vegeta, both the prince, his father and the Saiyan home planet (originally named Planet Plant) is the first half of "vegetable". Raditz is 'radish', and his brother, Kakarot, is 'carrot'.
Creation and design. Gohan's name comes from the Japanese word "gohan" (ご飯, lit. "cooked rice" or "meal of any sort"), a continuation of the naming scheme of foods by Toriyama. Rice, being a grain, is not normally considered to be a vegetable, even though it is a common food.
Bardock's name is derived from the vegetable burdock! As many fans are already well aware, his youngest son's Saiyan name is Kakarot, deriving from carrot, while the name of his older son, Raditz, comes from radish, meaning that all three are named after root vegetables!
Because of their leguminous denomination, all full-blood Saiyans get named after a vegetable in one way or another. Vegeta, Kakarot and Broly are well known examples of this custom, respectively named after “vegetable”, “carrot” and “broccoli.” The same rule applies to the Saiyans of Universe 6 as well.
The other henchmen of Freeza, the Saiyans' former boss, are also named after perishable foods: The most common are fruit puns, including Cui (kiwi), Dodoria (durian, which is spiky like his head), and Zarbon (the Japanese name for the pomelo).

Following the Saiyan race's usual naming trend, which is based on vegetables, Broly's name is a pun on broccoli, while his father Paragus is a pun on asparagus.
Super Broly is similar to Kale's Super Saiyan C-type, because they are both Legendary Super Saiyan forms, just not at full power.
Napa or Nappa cabbage (Brassica rapa subsp. pekinensis), also known as celery cabbage, is a type of Chinese cabbage originating near the Beijing region of China, and is widely used in East Asian cuisine. In much of the world, this is the vegetable referred to as "Chinese cabbage".
Legendary Saiyan. Kale using the Legendary Super Saiyan form. Kale is capable of transforming into a unique kind of Super Saiyan, during which her hair turns green, her muscle mass and body size dramatically increase. It is referred to as a "berserker" state, as well as the "Legendary Saiyan".
The character's name is a pun on freezer, and because of this, his minions and the members of the Ginyu Force are named after fruits and dairy products, items one would normally put in a refrigerator.
Turles's name is a pun on the vegetable "lettuce". The name is written out as ターレス, Tāresu. If the first two syllables are rearranged, it becomes レタース, retāsu. Ignoring the elongated "a" sound, it becomes the accurate Japanese spelling of "lettuce", レタス retasu.
Gohan/Future Gohan - Japanese for "rice" or dishes; foods in general. Goten - A play on Goku's name, replacing the "ku" (空) character, meaning "sky", with "ten" (天) meaning heaven.
The name "Beerus" was taken from the word "virus", though Toriyama mistakingly believed the word meant "beer", which began the naming pun used for Whis during production of Battle of Gods, and later future Gods of Destruction and attendants after alcoholic beverages.
Jiren's name appears to come from the word renji, which is the Japanese word for stove. Jiren was meant to have a more outspoken personality, according to Toei Animation.
The more official reasoning for Turles' visage is that, as a low-caste Saiyan, he was genetically predisposed to look like Goku, as there isn't much genetic diversity among their ranks.
Like her mother and older brother Trunks, Bulla's name is an allusion to an undergarment, the bra in particular (this pun is more apparent in the Japanese dub, where her name is homophone for the Japanese pronunciation of "bra").
Toppo's name is presumably a pun on the English word for pot (ポット, potto?), which can be rendered for teapot or coffee-pot and it fits the theme of the Pride Troopers being named after kitchen tools.
Whis is the all-powerful assistant of Beerus, and he's the one who trains Goku and Vegeta. He's an angel, and it's his job to ensure that the God of Destruction doesn't get out of hand. Whis is named after whiskey. Just like Saiyans are named after vegetables, Beerus and his group are named after alcohol.
Super Saiyan D-type (スーパーサイヤ人 D ディー タイプ, Sūpā Saiya-jin Dī-Taipu) is a form utilised by demonic exoskeleton-based Bio-Androids and non-Legendary Super Saiyan Demon-Saiyan Hybrids.
Cabba is a kind-hearted and earnest Saiyan from Universe 6's Planet Sadala who makes an honest living taking down bad guys for paying clients. He is chosen as one of Universe 6's representatives at the tournament held between Universes 6 and 7, where he finds himself at odds with a fellow Saiyan, Vegeta.
As we know broly had so much ki inside of him he had to physically dump a load so he didnt explode. combining these 2 aspects creates the green aura. Tldr; blue + yellow makes green.
Caulifla's name follows Toriyama's vegetable-inspired naming tradition for Saiyan characters, her name being a pun on cauliflower. Like other Saiyan characters in the series, Caulifla has black spiky hair in her base form, which turns golden yellow when she transforms into a Super Saiyan.
Like all other Saiyans, Cabba's name is a pun on a vegetable. His name is a pun on the English word, "cabbage". His role as a polite Saiyan who looks up after Vegeta is noticeably similar to Tarble, Vegeta's younger brother.
Since the idea of Saiyans was created after Goku was made a character, the word Gohan and Goku are actually based on rice. Trunks's name comes from the naming convention of Bulma's family in which they are typically named after undergarments. There are other exceptions to the rule of naming Saiyans based on vegetables.
