All existing record titles (those already in our records database) are free of charge through the standard application process.
The process takes a long time, particularly if you're trying to set a new record. Applications take 12 weeks to process — it even takes two weeks to get a response if you ask a question. There's a $5 fee to apply for a new record instead of applying to break an existing record, which is free.
As it turns out, there is. Anyone can break or set a world record. No matter how old you are, where you're from, or what language you speak, you, too, can be a Guinness World Record holder.
If you are successful, congratulations - you will receive an official Guinness World Records certificate (further certificates and merchandise can be purchased in the GWR Store). If not, do not give up, you can apply again or pick a different record to attempt.
If you wish to break an existing record or set a new record, and want to view the guidelines, you will need to submit an online application first. Each application for a new record title is reviewed individually by an expert and we are unable to tell you if your record can be accepted by email or phone.
