It's pretty obvious: J.K. Rowling is a Slytherin. According to the Harry Potter Wiki, a Slytherin is known to embody the following characteristics: ambition, shrewdness, cunning, strong leadership, and achievement-orientedness.
And, naturally, J.K. Rowling herself is a Gryffindor.
Rowling revealed her house during a livestream in 2012. "I'm now on Pottermore as a regular user.
"Not all Slytherins think they're racially superior," she tweeted. "But all those who do are Slytherins." Oh, suh-nap. As Hagrid says in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," "There's not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin." But that doesn't mean all Slytherins are bad!
Slytherin house has some trouble with shaking its murky reputation – and it's all thanks to a certain few witches and wizards like Lucius Malfoy. Today we look at the reasons why he embodied all the worst Slytherin traits and gave his house a bad name… Lucius Malfoy was an odious character.

Harry Potter came very close to being sorted into Slytherin before he persuaded the Hat to sort him into Gryffindor. Yet the spectre of Slytherin haunted him for some time afterwards, becoming particularly potent in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, when he was rumoured to be the heir of Slytherin.
Dumbledore's clear favoritism toward the Gryffindor house was obvious and had lasted generations. And while there was no clear reason for why he did this, it ended up being in the best interests of everyone around, despite being unfair to the students of Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.
Slytherins have a fear of failure since their cunning mentalities encourage them to be perfect at all times. Repeated failures are what people of the house are really afraid of, though, because it opens up the possibility for them to consider that they might be weak in some way.
We see several times over the course of the series that despite the other houses fearing/disliking him, the Slytherins have genuine respect for Snape and view him as their “cool teacher”.

Oddly enough, it's the boy wizard himself. She caused a scandal when she killed him off at the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but Albus Dumbledore is still the character JK Rowling would most like to have dinner with, the bestselling children's author has revealed.
In the Chamber itself, we see a large statue of a wizard, which Harry presumes is Salazar Slytherin. We also meet Tom Riddle, who is, as it turns out, the heir of Slytherin. Present only in spirit, he has all the same been controlling Ginny, and having her act as Slytherin's heir.
Her real parents were Daneel and Dean Novak, Pureblooded wizards. Turns out Daneel was Tom Riddles younger sister, Daneel Riddle. Of course, the Riddles were related to Salzar Slytherin himself, and this made Hermione the living heir of Slytherin.
While it's true that Voldemort is a descendant of Salazar Slytherin, he is the “Heir of Slytherin” because he is a parselmouth and he figures out he needs to communicate with the basilisk to open the Chamber of Secrets. Tom Riddle, Jr simply appropriates the title “Heir of Slytherin” for himself.
The Heir of Slytherin turns out to be Ginny Weasley, who is being controlled via a magical diary that once belonged to Tom Riddle, AKA Voldemort.
Cedric's death becomes a point of trauma and guilt for Harry and continues to haunt him, which leads him to form Dumbledore's Army as a way to help teach his fellow students to protect themselves in battle. His death is also a focal point of the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Harry would have been internally conflicted if he had been Sorted into Slytherin. Although he still would have felt that Hogwarts was the only place he had ever belonged, he might have felt wary forming relationships with the children of Death Eaters.
