Crush
GIVING EGGS/HATCHLINGS AS FEED
The eggs / hatchlings can be fed to several animals. Crushed eggs / hatchlings can be fed back to the G.A.L.S. This is extremely beneficial especially for the parent snail that laid the eggs.
Crushing egg masses and adults is more effective than knocking egg masses into the water, which ultimately suffocates and kills the eggs.
Fish as ravenous as African cichlids actually leave the snails alone for the most part. But some fish are very good at crushing, shucking, and biting right through even snails like this. Certain species of loaches are famous snail eaters.
Get Rid of Bladder Snails In The Most Humane Way
Flushing them is not an option because they will infiltrate the wild and damage the ecosystem, and crushing them is not a good solution for us, as it is quite inhumane. So, what should you do?
Snails can often survive minor crushing and can repair their shells, albeit with tiny flaws.
If the shell is cracked or chipped or there is a hole, but the overall integrity of the shell is reasonable, the snail will probably recover. If the shell has split into pieces but still covers the body it may even survive that. Minor body damage can be healed also.
If this shell becomes significantly broken then the snail will probably die. Whilst snails can repair small cracks and holes in their shells, if the break is serious then they will struggle to survive as the shell not only provides protection but also prevents them from drying out.
So, if a snail's shell is damaged, it can often repair itself using calcium from its diet or deposits in its environment. In some cases, however, the damage may be too extensive for the snail to recover. First, if your snails shell is cracked or chipped, it is essential to monitor the animal closely.
They eat algae, clean up uneaten fish food, break down fish waste, and help feed the snail eaters in your fish tank. These snails will not harm your live fish or plants, but they do keep your aquarium clean by consuming any dead animals or sickly leaves.
Egg masses should be scraped off into the water or crushed. Both snail and shells can be crushed or picked up and put in plastic bags and frozen to be disposed of later.
So, why do you need to wash your hands? The LSU AgCenter says, “The eggs contain a protein neurotoxin called PcPV2, which has been shown to be lethal to mice and it can cause irritation of the skin and eyes of humans.” Despite Apple snails being harmful to humans in these ways, you can eat them.
Why are baby snails appearing in my fish tank? Baby snails will appear in your tank if eggs or adult snails have been introduced to your tank and bred! If you see baby snails, then it means that your tank is an ideal environment for them to live and breed in!
Don't eat raw or undercooked snails or slugs, frogs or shrimp/prawns. If you handle snails or slugs, wear gloves and wash your hands. Always remember to thoroughly wash fresh produce.
If your snail seems to be in a friendly mood, it will be okay to stroke its shell a little bit. Stroking or touching the shell is a great way to interact with your snail and to “play” with it.
Warning. Never pick up a snail by its shell, as this can damage the muscle that attaches the body to the shell. If this muscle, called the mantle, is damaged, death can result.
Snails may have opioid responses and mussels release morphine when confronted with noxious stimuli. Both reactions suggest that these animals do, in fact, feel pain. While mollusks don't have brains per se, they do exhibit some nervous system centralization. They have several pairs of ganglia connected to a nerve cord.
While slugs are pretty much snails without shells, they don't seem to be jealous of their cousins' houses on the go. It's true that snails use their shells for protection—from other animals and from drying out in the sun.
The snail dies. In addition to the snail's vulnerable body being exposed to air and drying, its' internal organs have been smashed. If the body was intact and only the shell was broken, the snail would still die because it needs the shell for protection of its' body to keep it from drying out.
Snails will not feel pain if their shell is broken at the edges (there are no nerves). However, if the shell is broken where muscles attach to the shell, then it will hurt because its muscles may be injured.
It is generally safe to touch snails, as they do not carry any diseases that can be transmitted to humans through touch.
They are mourning. (Yes, they are also eating the dead snail. Snails are funerary cannibals. It is their culture.
Lifespan. Most species of land snail are annual, others are known to live 2 or 3 years, but some of the larger species may live over 10 years in the wild. For instance, 10-year old individuals of the Roman snail Helix pomatia are probably not uncommon in natural populations.
In summary, snails might have the biochemical potential to feel love, but they might not have a socially-mediated evolutionary reason to feel love. They engage in reproductive behaviors, but we don't know whether they feel love or pleasure during reproduction.
