Eating a variety of whole foods (fortified grains, quality protein, fruits and vegetables) each day will help you meet your vitamin and mineral needs. Men and women should both strive for 600 international units of vitamin D from fish, egg yolks, fortified foods and supplements every day.
On average, however, a moderately active woman over 70 needs about 1,800 calories per day, while a moderately active man over 70 needs about 2,200 calories per day. A sedentary woman in that age group only needs 1,600 calories per day, while a sedentary man needs about 2,000 calories per day.
Foods like bagels, toast, waffles, oatmeal, cereals or English muffins all have whole-grain varieties. Whole grains are also good sources of fiber, which supports senior nutrition in many ways. Look for lean protein. Eggs, yogurt and nuts or seeds are great sources of protein.

Adults aged 65 and older need: At least 150 minutes a week (for example, 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week) of moderate-intensity activity such as brisk walking. Or they need 75 minutes a week of vigorous-intensity activity such as hiking, jogging, or running. At least 2 days a week of activities that strengthen muscles.
According to the Reynolds Institute on Aging, Seniors should aim for 6 to 8 glasses of fluid a day, or approximately 1.5 liters. Have your senior sip on water throughout the day. Sometimes using a straw is easier and leads to more water consumption. Offer a full glass of water when they take medications.
These include: Having medical treatments, like chemotherapy and radiation, or recovering from major surgery. Infections. Chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, thyroid disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Older adults need about the same amount of sleep as all adults—7 to 9 hours each night. But, older people tend to go to sleep earlier and get up earlier than they did when they were younger. There are many reasons why older people may not get enough sleep at night.
Some decline in energy is to be expected with age, but intense and life-altering fatigue is concerning. Aging doesn't have to completely impair you or prevent you from living your life to the fullest. You shouldn't accept these signs and symptoms as a normal part of the aging process.
