After years of sacrificing himself for his family, it felt sort of anticlimactic when Dean died by accident in the field. Rather than some macho-heroic death or some world-ending mission (he'd been on plenty of those before, and even died in a few), Dean was impaled while fighting a masked vampire.
Fitting: Ended Up In Heaven
Most fans know that whenever a person dies, they either go to Heaven or Hell. Because Dean died several times in the show, it was only fitting that he not only died in the show's finale but that he was rewarded for his job as a hunter by going to Heaven.
After Dean died in the series finale, Sam went on to get married and have a child, whom he named after his brother. While it seems Sam didn't continue to hunt, the show also didn't reveal what his profession ended up being.
Finally free from Chuck, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) went on one last hunt to track down some evil mimes who were stealing children. Unfortunately, Dean got fatally stabbed during the hunt, and gave one hell of an emotional speech to his brother as he died.
Eileen Leahy - Sam's final love (Season 15)
That is until Chuck wiped everyone from existence (“Despair”).
Sam and Dean were then reunited in the new heaven, where Jack (Alexander Calvert) made some necessary improvements: No more walls, and you don't have to live solely in memories. The final shot of the series saw the brothers, together, happy.
In the end, Dean (Jensen Ackles) went out the way he always thought he would: Hunting. He was killed in the series finale while taking on a nest of vampires, but his ultimate end would come in the show's final moments, when he was reunited with Sam (Jared Padalecki) in heaven.
Not only does Dean die on a routine vampire hunt, passing away slowly in his brother's arms (which coincidentally may be the best scene in the entire final season), but he's briskly whisked away into Heaven solo.
Fitting: He Somewhat Remained A Hunter
Though it is unclear the extent of his hunter life after his brother's death, one of the final scenes shows his son inked with an anti-possession tattoo. This may likely imply that he taught his son some hunting, keeping the family business somewhat alive.
A Lackluster Plot
Supernatural boldly chose to forego the usual TV finale format - virtually every plot thread was already tied off in the penultimate episode, leaving one final hour to focus entirely on Sam and Dean Winchester. In theory, this made sense.
Emma Winchester is the daughter of Dean Winchester and Lydia. She is an Amazon warrior, trained to kill her father, but she refuse to go through it and was accepted by her family.
In his interview with KSiteTV, Misha Collins, who portrayed Castiel from the very beginning of the character being introduced, said that he was actually approached to make an appearance. The only reason that couldn't happen is his busy schedule filming for Gotham Knights.
During the scene in question, Castiel confesses his love to Dean before sacrificing himself to stop Death.
Using the demon cure process to try to turn his brother back, Sam lets his guard down and Dean escapes. With the help of Castiel, however, Dean is cured, but still remains an enhanced human with the Mark of Cain.
This is reconfirmed in the Supernatural finale when Sam's soul ascended into Heaven and materialized next to Dean's soul, making him the first person he interacted with in the afterlife. The brothers are unique in that they are the only soulmates who are family rather than spouses.
Sam claims that Samuel must've told someone else. After Dean slaughters Boris's nest, the Winchesters and Samuel are able to bring the cure together and Dean drinks it. After vomiting up a large quantity of blood, Dean experiences flashbacks of his time as a vampire before becoming human once more.
“Goodbye, Sam” are Dean's final words as his hand drops and a tear rolls down his cheek.
Season 9 - Human Cas
Fans get some cute moments between them when Dean drops Cas for his date and gives him some tips. At the end of the season, Cas again has to choose between heaven (this time an angel army) and Dean, and to no one's surprise, he chooses Dean.
You've got Bobby, you've got Jack, you've got the fact that Sam is still on Earth, and here's Dean, literally in heaven trying to do things to protect the life his brother's living. So it furthers the lore. And then it opens the door to other characters, a different Sam and Dean, etc.
Dean later briefly possessed a pair of Black Eyes while he was a Demon. Since separating from Sam, his appearance has become more scruffy and unshaven; his hair has also grown out a bit. In Let the Good Times Roll, Dean gains a pair of Angel's Wings due to his status as Apocalypse World Michael's current vessel.
And we're not about that life, especially with the history of fridging that Supernatural has had when it comes to their female characters. Sam and Eileen got married. Dean approved. And they all lived happily ever after.
Dean is resurrected as a demon at the end of season 9. After Dean accepts the Mark of Cain from Cain himself in season 9, it begins changing him, granting him supernatural powers, ramping up his bloodlust and making him addicted to using the First Blade.
And it left Jack as the new God, in harmony with the Darkness and present in every person and thing on earth. Jack's final speech to the boys was really beautiful, and I love the idea of him as a new God.
Arrival on Earth. At the end of the third season of Supernatural, Dean Winchester is in Hell after being killed by the hellhounds of the demonic antagonist Lilith. In the season four premiere "Lazarus Rising", the angel Castiel is introduced as the one who brought Dean back from Hell and resurrected him.
He became the meat suit for the Archangel Michael…with a twist, of course. It's not the Michael that wanted to go head-to-head with his brother, Lucifer, all those years ago. No, this is the Michael from the apocalypse world. The one who tortured our Lucifer and made his life hell on Alt!
