Re: Charged for a reply text(2) to BT61998
you shouldn't have been charged for texting that number if you are on BT Mobile. But other network providers may charge you at their standard rate. If you send me your details, I can take a look at your account to make sure you aren't charged.
What is BT Text? BT Text allows you to send and receive text (SMS) messages to and from other landlines, and mobile phones. It means if you don't have a mobile phone you can join in sending and receiving texts. If you're on pay-as-you-go mobile and you run out of credit you can still stay in touch.
Just dial Text store 0845 602 1111 to listen to the spoken text messages (calls cost 5p a minute, plus your BT access charge). Please remember that we can only save messages here for 24 hours.
An SMS short code is a five or six-digit number that you can use to send and receive SMS messages to and from mobile phones. There are two types of SMS short codes: a vanity number and a random number. A vanity short code is a specific number that you choose, while a carrier assigns a random short code to you.
A numeric code assigned to a commercial organization for text messaging (SMS). Users send a message to a short code to receive a canned response such as a Web page link.
We'll always identify ourselves as BT when we contact you. In the first instance, we'll give you a heads-up by sending you an SMS from a branded 'BT_SMS' number.

You can stop them or set curfews by calling 0800 587 5252 from the landline you're receiving the texts on.
Considered the original free texting app, TextFree adds a second line to your iOS or Android device at no cost. It allows you to receive texts and calls free, but to call someone who is not a TextFree user, you either must earn or purchase minutes.
Premium messaging is a type of text, photo and video messaging service that allows you to receive alerts, enter contests and access various information.
TextFree allows you to send and receive free messages as well as place and receive phone calls. If you reside in the United States or Canada, you can sign up for an account and choose a phone number to send texts and receive calls to any real number in those countries.
Report spam texts to your wireless carrier
Reporting spam to your carrier can help it spot and block these text messages before they even make it to your device. Weisman says to forward all spam text messages to 7726, which spells out spam on your keypad.
First, the easiest way to stop receiving unwanted short code text messages is to simply reply with the word “STOP” to the short code. This usually works 99% of the time, as it's required by the Cellular Telephone Industries Association(CTIA).
7726 is a number that most mobile customers using UK networks can text to report unwanted SMS messages or phone calls on a mobile. The number '7726' was chosen because it spells 'SPAM' on an alphanumeric phone keypad – that's a handy way of remembering it.
Note: Reporting junk or spam doesn't prevent the sender from sending messages, but you can block the number to stop receiving them. If you don't see the option to report spam or junk messages you receive with SMS or MMS, contact your carrier.
They've changed (spoofed) the caller ID to look like they're messaging you from your number, but the shock of getting a text from yourself is bound to get your attention — which is what they're after. If you get a text from your own number, it's a scam.
When you text a landline, the phone service or carrier checks the number to see if it's eligible for text-to-landline service. Your text message then gets recorded and the telephone service calls the recipient's landline phone.
Here's what you should do if you receive one of these texts.
You can copy the message and forward the spam texts to SPAM (7726) or report it as junk or spam via the messaging app you use, depending on whether you are an Apple or Android user.
People often ask, how do I find out who owns an SMS shortcode? Well, the best place to consult is the U.S. Short code directory or administration. They have a database that provides you the opportunity to search for specific shortcodes to see who registered them and when they were registered.
An SMS shortcode is a 5 digit number to which an SMS text message can be sent. Shortcodes are often used by businesses to allow customers to opt-in to their SMS campaigns, alert services, or to enter SMS competitions.
What is a Six-Digit Code? Also referred to as a short code, or six digit phone number, six-digit codes are numbers created by major wireless carriers. These phone numbers allow marketers to communicate with consumers about things like promotional offers, new products and services.
