I understand that "you don't look your age" means you look younger than people at your age. Just I don't understand how come the meaning of "look" is different from its usual meaning which is to stare / gaze / watch something.
phrase. to look as old as you really are. Richard doesn't look his age at all.
ageless. adjective. an ageless person or thing never seems to look old.
Thanks for the compliment. Thanks! You made my day. Smile and say thank you politely.
Yes, it's a compliment. Many people love being asked for ID when they go out to a movie, club, etc. , because it sort of gives them the impression that you don't "look" your age. It's a pretty nice compliment for any age, because what I get annoyed at is people giving me "senior discounts" and I'm not a senior yet.
It's much more accepted to tell a woman they look young than a man. Telling a man he looks young would be considered rude and actually very awkward for him. It's seen as a compliment for a woman and not a man.
“You look great!” is a flattering compliment to receive but tacking on “…for your age” to the tail-end may backfire. This can be taken as a form of ageism, or “the stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination against people on the basis of their age” according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
“Retinol and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) can rejuvenate the skin and eliminate fine lines and wrinkles,” Dr. Patel says. “Hyaluronic acid helps your skin retain moisture, which gives it a smooth, glowing look.” Opt for serums and night creams with retinol and AHAs, and a daily face moisturizer with hyaluronic acid.
They found that genes have a lot to do with looking young. There are thousands of genes in everyone's DNA that focus on cell energy, skin formation, and antioxidant production, but "ageless" people express them differently, and often for longer while others peter out as they age.
Blame loss of collagen and elastin, which makes skin more brittle; a slower turnover of dead skin cells, causing dullness; less oil production and faster moisture loss; plus any acne scarring—and it's no wonder aging skin is no longer smooth and bright.
For example, the genes responsible for energising the skin to repair itself and make enough collagen may be more active in younger looking people. These genes also have a positive effect on the skin's moisture barriers and antioxidant levels. All this means fewer visible signs of ageing.
According to the research, the average American starts feeling old at the age of 47. Similarly, the average respondent starts to really worry about age-related bodily changes around 50 years old.
Grandiloquent Word of the Day: Neanimorphic. (nee•AN•ni•MORF•ik) Adjective: -Looking younger than one's years. -Appearing younger than one's actual age.
They're the result of facial muscles continually tugging on, and eventually creasing, the skin. Other folds may get deeper because of the way fat decreases and moves around. Finer wrinkles are due to sun damage, smoking, and natural degeneration of elements of the skin that keep it thick and supple.
Round faces tend to age very well compared to other face shapes due to the fact they store a lot of fat in the cheek area. This can keep you looking younger for longer than those who lose fat quicker. This means that a gaunt and dull complexion takes longer to develop.
Does short or long hair make you look younger? Long hair can enhance facial features by diverting attention away from wrinkles or age spots and adding volume to your hair. Short hair does not need to age you, though, as the style and texture of shorter hairstyles can add a youthful appearance.
Older ladies also tend to be emotionally mature, stable, confident, and independent. Attractive older women are less likely to be needy or jealous in a relationship. All of these great qualities mean that older women are often considered attractive women!
According to a new study, when you look significantly younger than your chronological age, it's not just an optical illusion, your skin is actually aging a slower rate than normal.
Results showed that participants who were perceived to be five years younger than their actual age were shown to have better cognitive or thinking skills. They were also 25% less likely to suffer from age-related morbidities such as cataracts.
Studies have found partners with more than a ten-year gap in age experience social disapproval. But when it comes to our own relationships, both men and women prefer someone their own age, but are open to someone 10-15 years their junior or senior.
The age of a person, as a particularly salient feature of faces, influences the perception of attractiveness. The negative consequences of aging on perceived attractiveness are well-documented (Ebner et al., 2018; Foos & Clark, 2011; North & Fiske, 2015).
