ALDI SOUTH Germany visited a certified salmon farm in Norway to find out more. The salmon farm is placed in the fjords of the Norwegian coast and the fish farm is certified according to the GLOBALG.
Australian Salmon are mainly caught in NSW using haul seine nets deployed from sandy beaches. A small portion are caught using purse seine nets. Stocks are still recovering from historical overfishing but are on a promising trajectory.
Farmed salmon is typically Atlantic salmon. Wild-caught salmon, meanwhile, is usually one of five types of Pacific salmon: chinook (king), sockeye, coho, pink and chum.

It is farmed mainly in south-eastern Tasmania, although there are some inland, freshwater farms in Victoria, primarily to supply roe. The acquisition of Tassal by Cooke Inc means Australia's two largest salmon producers are now in private hands, following JBS's purchase of Huon Aquaculture in 2021. Tassal Group, the largest producer of farmed salmon in Australia, has accepted a takeover bid from family-owned Canadian aquaculture firm Cooke Inc.

The farmed salmon are internationally recognized for their superior quality, flavor, and texture, and they are also renowned for their high nutritional value as they represent a great source of high-quality omega-3 fatty acids, protein, minerals, and vitamins.

Alaska is known as the salmon mecca of the world. Some of the best salmon fishing in the US can be found in Alaska. It is the top destination for anglers for all five types of pacific Salmon. King, Sockeye, Silver, Chum and Pink Salmon all make their annual runs here as part of the Alaska Salmon Fishery.
Judging each salmon on a scale of 1-10, this cheapo Costco fish scored the highest at 7.6. Costco also had the lowest-scoring fish on the test, as the wild coho brought up the rear with a mere 3.9 out of 10. With a score of 6.4, the second-highest rating went to a Trader Joe's farmed salmon from Norway ($10.99/lb.).
Rich in heart-healthy omega-3s, salmon is a low-calorie protein source that's also low in saturated fat. The American Heart Association recommends eating at least two 3.5-ounce servings of fatty fish like salmon every week.
