(Warner Bros.) Todd Phillips is getting the last laugh, as Joker 2 — Joker: Folie à Deux — will come to cinemas on 4 October, 2024. Following in the bloody footsteps of 2019's original, the Hangover filmmaker is returning to direct a sequel to the psychological thriller.
Joker 2 is currently filming ahead of its 2024 release, giving fans some very exciting glimpses of what's to come. Officially titled Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel sees Joaquin Phoenix return to the role of Arthur Fleck, with Todd Phillips coming back to direct and co-write alongside Scott Silver.
Lady Gaga gave her Monsters and cinephiles the first look at her Harley Quinn character in new set photos from Joker: Folie a Deux's New York shoot.
Joker: Folie à Deux is an upcoming American musical thriller film directed by Todd Phillips, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver. Based on DC Comics characters, the film is the sequel to Joker (2019) and stars Joaquin Phoenix, reprising his role as the Joker, and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn.
If Todd Phillips plans to dial things up in terms of the darker themes of the story then this could push things up to an 18, but 15 seems like the most likely based on everything that we know so far.
Jim Carrey won't be the real Joker. He is someone inspired by Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck and calls himself Mr J. In the sequels featuring Joker, different people will take the mantle ahead of playing the scary clown of crime. Mr J is one of them and he will play the older version of this iconic villain.
Martha reveals that she forced Psycho-Pirate, a villain with extensive knowledge of the entire DC Universe, to tell her the name of the Joker in the main DC Universe. It is then revealed that the Joker's real name is “Jack Oswald White.”
One of the most popular examples of this was 2019's Joker which saw Joaquin Phoenix take on the iconic clown prince of crime, to much critical praise. Its sequel Joker: Folie à Deux is set to hit theaters in October 2024 and has been filming in New York City for the last number of weeks.
Joker (Jacques Demy's Version) Folie à Deux will, in fact, be a musical. Ominous reports of a musical sequel first emerged last August, when an insider told Variety that the sequel has “complicated musical sequences” that are more in line with A Star Is Born than In the Heights.
1. Heath Ledger - The Dark Knight (2008)
New pictures have been released of Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix from the Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux. Gaga, who plays Harley Quinn in the upcoming film, shared a picture of her in character as she announced filming on the sequel had come to an end.
With filming having wrapped on the sequel, director Todd Phillips has celebrated the milestone with new pics of his two leading actors. That's a wrap. Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew that the film industry has to offer.
Joker and Batman are not brothers, even though the movie suggests that they are. It is later revealed that Arthur is, in fact, adopted, and his true origins are unknown.
The Story Doesn't Need a Continuation
What seems like the most obvious reason for this film to not get a sequel is that a sequel to this story doesn't make sense. The first film was made as a standalone comic-book feature that was to have no connection to the DCEU.
Arkham Asylum appears in The Batman. Like the original Arkham, several major villains end up in this institution, such as the Joker, Harley Quinn, the Riddler, Mr. Freeze, the Ventriloquist, Hugo Strange, Clayface, and Penguin.
During this transitional period in the character's history, Bill Finger devised his most frequently cited origin story. Published in 1951, Detective Comics #168 revealed that the Joker was once the Red Hood, a masked criminal who fell into a vat of acid while attempting to escape from Batman.
Gotham City in Joker was set in 1980s New York City, according to Todd Phillips, "to separate it, quite frankly, from the DC universe". Mark Friedberg, the production designer of this film, said he established the filming location of Gotham Square in Newark as a film set because there was still poverty.
He also revealed his real name: Jack Napier.
Arguably the Joker's greatest weakness is his ego, however. He turns to crime to get the attention he desperately craves from Batman.
The Joker is a serial killer and a super-villain, a dangerous madman who dresses like a clown and commits violent crimes. He is often recognized as Batman's greatest enemy, living in and terrorizing Gotham City, although he spends most of his time in Arkham Asylum.
Being one of the fan-favorite characters, Robert Pattinson's Batman directed by Matt Reeves was considered to be one of the best comic-accurate Batman films of all time. However, Barry Keoghan's Joker appearance in the credit scene was something that came as a surprise for all the fans!
Portions of Joker are a Hallucination
The most straightforward reading of this is that the movie happened exactly as it was presented. This would mean that the dream sequence and his relationship with his neighbor were hallucinations but the rest of the movie is real.
Kate Ledger revealed that Heath Ledger had an amazing time working with Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale, stating that he was proud of what he pulled off for The Dark Knight and that he was going to come back to play the Joker again.
