China is the only country where people get an average of more than 7 hours of sleep per night. Countries like Hong Kong and Thailand are quite close to 7 hours of sleep. This could be because most Asian cities are a lot more densely populated.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine has recommended that children aged 6–12 years should regularly sleep 9–12 hours per 24 hours and teenagers aged 13–18 years should sleep 8–10 hours per 24 hours.
Afternoon nap is a traditional practice commonly seen in populations of Mediterranean, Latin American, and Chinese countries. In Chinese society, it is widely accepted that afternoon nap, as a complementary sleep, is a healthy activity and is especially good for older adults who need longer sleeping time.
The report shows that 80.1 percent of Chinese young people think that staying up after midnight constitutes staying up late, and 61.4 percent think that being an early bird is ideal. But 69.1 percent go to sleep after midnight, with 33.2 percent staying up until 1am.
Nowadays, kids in China follow a strict schedule crafted by their parents that's comparable to an adult's 9-5 routine, with only 1-2 hours of break time each day. After school ends, many parents take their children to afterschool programs so that they can excel over their competition.
