Check marks will appear next to each message you send. Here's what each one indicates: The message was successfully sent. The message was successfully delivered to the recipient's phone or any of their linked devices. The recipient has read your message.
A hollow checkmark indicates that your message has been sent, and two hollow checkmarks mean that it has been successfully delivered. Upon the recipient seeing your text, the checkmarks turn into a filled icon.
A filled blue circle with a checkmark means that your message has been successfully delivered to the other person. While you cannot ensure that the person has seen the message, you can ensure that it has made it to their device.
One hollow checkmark means that your message was successfully sent. Two hollow checkmarks indicate your message was delivered. Two filled-in checkmarks means the message was read by the recipient.
On an Android
First, open your Messages app and navigate to the settings. Depending on your phone model, operating system, and cellular provider, you will notice one of the following: Read Receipts, Send Read Receipts or Request Receipt. Turn on the applicable option.
You only have to turn on the airplane mode of your device or shut down the internet. After that, you can read the message, and it will not show the read receipt to the sender. Note : The drawback is that the sender can see the read receipt whenever you turn on the internet or turn off the airplane mode.
The recipient may have turned read receipts off if you don't see the 'Seen' text or the eye icon. Try sending the person a DM. If they respond and you never saw the 'Seen' feedback, they've turned their read receipts off.
You can't get tell if someone has read a regular text message (SMS) on either Android or iOS. Internet-based apps send messages over a web connection as opposed to the mobile network.
A delivered text message status does not necessarily mean that the recipient reads the message. It simply means that the message was received by their device and is stored in their memory. The recipient may still choose not to read or open the message, even though it has been delivered successfully.
A search leads to this question but it only applies to SMS messages, not other notifications. Android's own "clear all" button does not mark notifications as read, it only temporarily removes them which is pretty useless. Marking texts as read is a per-app thing, so there's no standard way to do it.
If you send a message to someone and the message is not delivered, meaning that only an unfilled check mark icon appears, it generally means one of two things: The user has not logged into Facebook. The user has blocked you on Messenger.
You entered an invalid or wrong number. You're texting a non-text-enabled landline or phone number extension. Your message was sent but not delivered. A carrier flagged your text message as spam.
Typically, the message doesn't get delivered instantly due to some delay in the network and issues with connection requests. It could be a poor internet connection, a Messenger server problem, or a recipient's connection and lack of data storage space.
Any messages sent to a contact who has blocked you will always show one check mark (message sent), and never show a second check mark (message delivered). Any calls you attempt to place will not go through.
A second grey check mark means that your message has been delivered, received on the recipients' device, and isn't just floating around on the network. If the recipient has read receipts turned on, two grey check marks indicate that the recipient has received but not yet read the message.
Sent: The mobile device has sent the SMS to the SMSC (Short message service center). And the SMSC has confirmed it has received the SMS. Delivered: The mobile device has received a SMS-DELIVER (Delivery Notification). Although delivered is a relative term in the SMS world.
The recipient blocked your phone number
If the recipient blocks your phone number from contacting them, your message won't be delivered. If you don't see a 'Delivered' or 'Read' notification, this is a likely explanation.
SENT means the message has been submitted to the cellular network for immediate delivery. DELIVERED means the message was delivered to the recipient's cell phone.
"Delivered" means the message has been successfully received by the person's iPhone, but not necessarily that it has been opened. If Read Receipts are on, it will show the time the message was read. If Read Receipts are off, it will say "Delivered" regardless if they have read it or not.
Send the person a message to see if they respond.
When you send someone a simple check-in text, and they don't respond for a few days, it might mean they don't want to talk to you. Try again once more if you don't hear back; if they don't respond the second time, don't keep pushing the issue.
How to Turn Off Read Receipts on Android. Go to the Message settings menu, and click on general settings. Then, click on the Chat features option. You will see the Send read receipts toggle option.
Why does my text say delivered but not read? It is possible that your text was delivered to the recipient's phone, but they may not have opened it yet. If your message is urgent, you can try sending another text or calling the person directly.
When you send them an SMS and you get the "Delivered" notification underneath it, you weren't blocked. If you get a notification like "Message Not Delivered" or you get no notification at all, that's a sign of a potential block.
Keep a check on the delivery icon for both accounts. If the other person's delivery icon changes from Sent to Delivered and yours is still showing Sent, it means they have Ignored you.
